Regents Park, London's complete recreation area

Regents park is London's most compete open air space - it has

• acres of playing fields
• a boating and sailing lake
• the city's Zoo on the north side
• open air theatre
• shady avenues

John Nash laid it out in the early 1800's for the Prince Regent who wanted a country villa there. However the scheme came to nothing, and in 1838 the area was opened to the public. The Regency terraces that Nash designed still surround three sides of the open space as a testimony to the original scheme
