Covent Garden, London's vegetable market

Covent Garden, London's main market for fruit and vegetables operated from here for over 300 years. Increasing congestion led to its being moved to a new site south of the river in 1974.

When the barrowboys and the vegetables moved out the site was revamped as a modern shopping area

If you compare the photos of the old market (above) and the new market (below) you can see that the same halls are now used by cafes and stalls that sell a variety of items like clothing and jewelry
